(1) Guinness World Record in 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' is held by 'Man Pasand Laughter Yoga Club, Indore, India' with effect from 28.11.15. In other words, 'Man Pasand Laughter Yoga Club, India' is the current 'Guinness World Record Holder' in the category of  'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' . Its a great honour to India, Indore and Man Pasand Laughter Yoga Club.

(2) It is with pleasure we announce that we have released on 01.01.16, the world first Android App on 'Laughter Yoga' Its available free on Google Play Store. Please visit the Google Play Store and search 'Laughter Yoga' Download and Install the same on your mobile or tablet. This is the world first Android App on Laughter Yoga. IARC, the global rating agency has rated this App for use by everyone. This App has been designed to promote Laughter Yoga among common public for all age group. Visit of Dr Madan Kataria and Madhuri Kataria, Founders, Laughter Yoga International and Laughter Clubs Movement

On 29th November '15 Dr Madan Kataria and Madhuri Kataria visited our club. He went round the garden decorated with special banners. He had an informal meeting with the club members. He planted a 'Kalpabrakchha' During course of his talk, he declared this club to be no 1 globally. This event was sponsored by our member Mr Tulsi Manwani of Manwani Group, Mr Dilip Sharma, Corporator, Municipal Corporation of Indore, Mr Sunil Tiwari of Yashdeep Graphics and Mr K.C. Sharma, Industrialist, educationist and Chairman, Rankers Point.

Earlier on 27th November, Katarias visited Matlani Garden and paid homage to Late Shri Matlani. This event was sponsored by Mr Girish Matlani, Chairman and Managing Director, Matlani Group.

Earlier on 28th November, Dr Kataria conducted the 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' and thus broke the existing Guinness World Record held by Hongkong, This brought a great honor to India and Indore and that too by an infant club having unique philosophy of 'No office bearers and no funds'. Substantial help was provided by Mr Janardan Sharma and other Club Members in planning and executing  this grand event. This event was sponsored by Mr. Kishore Wadhwani, Chairman and Managing Director of Dabang Dunia Publications Pvt Ltd. Crucial guidance was provided by Mr Praveen Khariwal, Press Council Chief of Indore and Srijan, famous Advertising and Marketing firm of MP.

On 29th November, we organized a lunch in honor of Katarias in 5 star Sayaji Hotels in which Industrialists, businessmen, laughter yoga members and eminent citizens were present. Few of our members who were poor also attended this lunch. This fabulous lunch was sponsored by Mr Girish Matlani, Chairman and Managing Director, Matlani Group.

On 30th November, Katarias conducted 'Kitty Laughter' at the Theatre Hall of Airens. This event was sponsored by Dr Garima Airen, one of our most dynamic members.

On 3oth November, Dr Kataria recorded 4 hours of contents at the studio of D Live to be broadcast daily 15 minutes episode of 'Laughter Yoga by Dr Kataria'

During 4 days visit of Katarias, a Mercedes with chauffer was provided by Mr Girish Matlani, Chairman and Managing Director, Matlani Group.

The 4 days stay of Katarias in Sayaji Hotels was taken care of by Mr Jagat Singh Bisht, the Laughter Professor.

'Guinness World Records' communicated on 30.01.17 that 'Man Pasand Laughter Yoga Club, India' is the current 'Guinness World Record Holder' in the category of 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' with effect from 28.11.15.

Highlights of Man Pasand LY Club, Indore, India

(a) It has maximum number of video clips on YouTube. To access the same, one may search 'Laughter Yoga Ram Kishan' in YouTube

(b) It has two batches daily, one at 7AM and second at 8:30AM. First batch is normally conducted by Raja Babu and second by Mrs Ranu Dubey. In fact now we have 17 members trained laughter leaders and hence daily by rotation, they are conducting the first batch.

(c) It has weekly upload of video clip on WhatsApp group in name of 'Park Palasia' All the members present on a day are videographed so that those who are absent know who have attended the session on that day. Such clips are forwarded to their own relatives and friends. This interaction with the society acts as a good marketing drive for our club. As a result new members continue to join. This is how we have ever growing membership of our club. Since we are using latest technology, we have more young members compared with other clubs.

(d) Members of male and females of all age groups from 4 years to 85 years. Majority is young persons and ladies.

(e) It took birth on 30.10.14. On 19.04.15, it was declared No 1 among 65 clubs of Indore. On World Laughter Day i.e. 03.05.15, it won the Running Shield for best performance and attendance. On 29.11.15, it was declared to be No 1 in the world by Dr Kataria at Indore itself.

(f) Shri Jagat S. Bisht, and his wife Radhika Bisht, both Laughter Professors, Laughter Yoga International University visited our club on 11th, 12th and 13th May 2015. Shri Jagat published a blog titled ' A Laughter Club Dream' in various web sites viz. laughteryoga.org, speakingtree.in and scratchmysoul.com

(g) On 30.05.15, our club organized a film show and video lecture on laughter. This show was based on the pictures and video clips pertaining to the club and the laughter past 6 months. Such unique film show has perhaps not been shown anywhere by any other laughter club.

(h) On two Sundays i.e. 24th & 31st May '15, it actively took part in Hamrah Program of daily newspaper 'Patrika' and conducted its daily laughter sessions there. The event was well covered by Patrika by way of write up as well as photos. On 2nd June '15, it also took active part in the program held in ISCON Temple, Indore, India.

(i) We have designed our own dress code in form of an apron in yellow colour printed on both sides with an smiley and words  Man Pasand  and  मन पसंद This dress code will be followed whenever our club attends any function outside or during any celebration in the club itself. This dress code was followed in the celebration of International Yoga Day, 21st June 2015. Our club was the star attraction due to this dress code. Our attendance was maximum. 29 photos relating to this historic event were posted on facebook page pertaining to Ram Kishan. Subsequently the media print as well as electronic has covered this club extensively. The latest is when this club created a new Guinness World Record for the category of 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' on 28.11.15 at Indore conducted by Dr. Madan Kataria himself. This is the first Indian World Record in the field of Laughter Yoga. It has brought honor to India as well as to Indore. Such a wonderful achievement by this infant club with age of one year only. This unique club is not having any office bearers and no funds.

(j) and (k) The above facts supported by large numbers of photos and videos are contained in facebook pages pertaining to 'Ram Kishan'; 'Man Pasand LY Club' and 'Indore Laughter Yoga Clubs'

(l) Mr Ram Kishan is taking active interest in the international WhatsApp group titled 'LY News' formed by Laughter Yoga International. This is to illustrate 'Acting locally and interacting globally'.

(m) Mr Jagat S. Bisht visited us on 26.06.15. We discussed about the training program to be held on 10th and 11th June '15. Further he informed that Dr. Madan Kataria will visit Indore from 27th to 30th November '15 and our club will make all arrangements for his programs during this period. On 27th November, Dr Kataria visited Matlani Garden to pay homage to Late Shri Matlani. On 28.11.15, Dr Kataria conducted 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' setting first Guinness World Record for India. it was a great honor to India, Indore and Man Pasand LY Club. On 29.11.15, Dr Kataria visited Man Pasand Park and met members of our club. He also planted 'Kalp Vrikshha'. On 29.11.15, a lunch was hosted in his honor at 5 star Sayaji Hotel with the courtesy of Matlani group. On 30.11.15, he conducted 'Kitty Laughter' session at Dr Garima's Theatre Hall. The visit of Dr Kataria right from the air travel, movements and stay at Indore as well as all the events at Indore were all sponsored. Since our club is not having any fund, not a single paisa was spent by the members of our club.

(n) Our Man Pasand Laughter Yoga club organized a Rally on 28.06.15 at 8 AM. This Rally was inaugurated by Mr Jagat S. Bisht, Laugher Professor. About 50 members of our club attired in our dress code went round two streets of the area near the Park. We covered each and  every multi in this area. We explained the importance and need of the Laughter Yoga as well as distributed the pamphlets. This even was well covered by the Print as well as the Electronic Media. Dawang Dunia group played an important role.

(o) On 10th & 11th July '15, Mr Bisht planned to conduct 2-Day Intensive Training Course in Laughter Yoga in Man Pasand Community Hall. This program is called CLYL (Certified Laughter Yoga Leader Training. 40 photos relating to the said course have been posted on facebook in the page of Ram Kishan as well as on the google. These photos have been appreciated by Dr Kataria,. Mr Bisht and others. There is a good response to this program. It is first program to be conducted in Hindi. Entire program was planned to be video recorded by us and the video clips planned to be uploaded on YouTube. On 06.07.15, Mr and Mrs Bisht visited our club, informed in detail about the said Training Course. He also answered the questions from the members of the club. He visited the venue and offered his suggestions, guidance and advice. We thanked him for sparing his valuable time. We posted on facebook a small video clip of his this visit in which he is shown doing laughter yoga in our club. On 7th July '15, Mr. O. P. Gupta appreciated the said training course and issued an appeal through WhatsApp for maximum nos to join. On 8th July '15, we and Mr Bisht had detailed discussions about the said program and the material to be given to the participants. The matter was also discussed with Dawang Dunia and D News live.

(p) The above mentioned program was successfully held on 10th and 11th July. The D Live News channel covered it by way a news channel release including a video interview with Mr and Mrs Bisht. Nearly 25 persons attended the program. Out of these 16 were from Man Pasand LY club itself. Complete program was video recorded. The clips were uploaded on YouTube. 150 photos were posted on facebook page of Ram Kishan.

(q) D Live covered the event nicely, accurately and quickly on 10.07.15.

(r) On 17.07.15, we had a pleasant surprise when Laughter Yoga International University conferred the honour of 'Laughter Ambassador' on Mr Ram Kishan. This message spread like wild fire in the International Laughter Yoga community as well as in the WhatsApp groups of Laughter community in Indore. On 18.07.15, the club celebrated the said prestigious award. The group photo was posted on facebook page of Ram Kishan. A video clip with photos of Mr Bisht as slide show and his telecon as audio was posted on facebook on 19.07.15.

(s) On 21st and 22nd July 2015, Indore had heavy and continuous rains. As a result the Man Pasand Park was fully flooded. This did not deter the members. They started laughter session in a nearby bus stop. Some used the umbrellas and rain coats and underwent the full laughter session enjoying the rains. Photos and videos were posted on facebook page of Ram Kishan. This incidence was highly appreciated by the global laughter community.

(t) On 26.07.15, our club took out the monthly rally ( it is planned to done on the last Sunday of every month). On account of heavy and continuous rains on last 5 days, we were doubting whether the rally would be successful. But finally, the rally was attended to by sufficient nos of the members. Mr Manwani specifically came all way from Ujjain. We went round the streets near to Man Pasand Park. Dr Garima was on the mike of a handheld PA system. We went house to house, distributed the pamphlets and made the people to laugh heartily. Overall it was most successful rally. 38 photos were posted on the facebook. At the end Dr Anjul invited us for the tea. There we recorded the special poem written by Dr Anjul. It was uploaded on youtube share with facebook. Soon it became world wide news. Dr Kataria, Mr Bisht and others appreciated the rally as well as the poem.

(u) On 30.07.15, we had meeting with Mr Dilip Sharma, Parshad (i.e. Corporator) of Municipal Corporation, Indore at Manwani House where Mr Tulsi Manwani and Ram Kishan were present. The present activities of the club and the visit of Dr Kataria in Nov was discussed. Subsequently the contents of the discussions were informed to Mr. Kailash Khandelwal and Mr Janardan Sharma with a view to arrange meeting of the office bearers of other laughter clubs of Indore.

(v) On 31.07.17 at 1:30PM, few trained members of the club assembled at the residence of Dr Garima Airen to revise, review and rehearse the Laughter Yoga Leader Training. Notice about this meeting was given 4 days in advance in the WhatsApp group of the club so that the members came with full preparation by studying the Manual, Books and the Training videos on YouTube. It was a brain storming session focused on 'Laughter Yoga Meditation' We formulated the content of the session and rehearsed the same. This news item was posted on face book page of Ram Kishan with a small video clip which shows as to how the members enjoyed the session. 

(w) On 02.15, Sunday at 3PM, few members of our club, in our dress code, went to 'Mahesh Drishtiheen Kalyan Sangh', a hostel of blind girls. There are nearly 150 blind girls. We heard their beautiful songs. We made them to laugh with few exercises. We donated the required fund which will take care of their one meal every year on 6th August. We decided to train them in Laughter Yoga. We shall hold an annual event on 6th August. The entire event was photo and video graphed. Few of the video clips were posted on our two WhatsApp groups. 38 photos were posted on the face book page of Ram Kishan.

(x) On 03.08.15, the club celebrated birth day of Dr Anjul Kansal, member of our club who is a highly talented person. She has written and recited many poems on various occasions in our club. This celebration was photo and video graphed. The video was uploaded on youtube as well as shared on facebook. Her husband is also helping our club by translating in Hindi the Training Manual. Both persons are very much affectionate to our club. All the members enjoyed the special birth day celebration. 

(y) On 04.08.15, the club made a history. Stress Management Group headed by Shreya Maheshwari invited our club to demonstrate, present and coach 'Laughter Meditation' They arranged the event in the premium location of Cafe Terazza. Our group consisting of Ranu Dubey, Madhulika Raghuwanshi, Dr Garima Airen and Padma Ram Kishan headed by Ram Kishan presented a full session on 'Laughter Meditation'. The attendees consisting of about 25 ladies liked the session so much that they demanded more of it and their demand was unsatiated even after spending double of the allotted time of 40 minutes. As a whole it was most successful session. They desired that we should come more often. Subsequently we posted 47 photos on facebook and the video clips were sent through WhatsApp. It was the first assignment for the club and it history was made. 

(z) 2 days it rained heavily. It rained 7 inches in 24 hours and Indore achieved the annual quota. We continued to laugh at the Bus Stop as the garden was fully flooded. The community hall was not available as Mr Agar and Bhardwaj had demanded Rs 2000 per day. On 05.08.15 when we were laughing at the Bus stop, one gentleman was going on the road. I recognized him to be Mr Gangrade who taught me in Engineering in 1962. I introduced him to our group and invited him to dance with us, which he agreed. The video and photos were flashed on WhatsApp. 

(za) On 06.08.15, our club members went to Blind Girls Hostel i.e. 'Mahesh Dristiheen Kalyan Sangh' It has 200 blind girls. We made them to laugh with several exercises. They also sand beautiful song. Ranu Dubey was on the mike of a portable PA system. Then we served them the dinner. The entire expenditure for one day dinner on 6th August every year for all time to come was borne by the club. They were overjoyed when we served the food to them. All the members enjoyed the event. The video and photos of this event was uploaded respectively on YouTube and Facebook.

(zaa) It was decided to change Admin of the WhatsApp group 'Park Palasia'. Further since our club has achieved a mature state, it was decided to stop daily videography of the club. It will be limited only for special occasion.  Another WhatsApp group i.e. Manpasand LY club-1 was formed and it will be a dedicated group for Laughter Yoga and Health. The exiting 'Park Palasia' will continue to be a general group. The Admin for the dedicated group will be Ranu Dubey. On account of these decisions, Mr Ram Kishan can pay more attention to his role and responsibility of 'Laughter Ambassador'

(zb) On 08.08.15, Mr Rajiv Nigam, famous comedian and TV artist visited our club in the morning. He was accompanied by Mr Manwani Anand and Ms Amrita. They were promoting their upcoming film 'Hum Sab Ullu Hain' Mr Rajiv Nigam cum jokes and entertained us with humorous stories. All the members enjoyed this event. The video and photos were uploaded respectively on YouTube and facebook.

(zc) On 09.08.15, the club celebrated the birth day of Prof Maheshwari. Our member Shri Tulsi Manwani felicitated Mr Maheshwari with shawl and shri phal.On this occasion, he sang the famous song 'Chodhavin Ka Chand Ho' Prof Maheshwari is known for his jokes but everybody was stunned when he sang the song. The joy of the occasion was heightened when he informed that he has been selected as dean of a deptt. All the members enjoyed this event. The video and photos were posted respectively on YouTube and Facebook.

(zd) On 11.08.15, a new WhatsApp group has been formed named 'Dr Kataria Indore Visit' Also a new web page was also commenced with the name as 'Dr Kataria Indore Visit - Laughter Yoga Movement'

(ze) The details of activities of our club were daily posted on the said new web page vide link Dr Kataria Indore Visit - Plan, Progress & Record

(zf) Now all the data, photos and videos are being collected to submit to Guinness to obtain the certificate.

(zg) The club founded another club named 'Man Pasand Morya Palace LY Club', a weekly club to meet on Sundays at 10 AM.

(zh) We have developed an Andoroid App on Laughter Yoga for the first time in the world. This free App was launched on 01.01.16 and is available on Google Play Store. This App has been appreciated by one and all and has become quite popular within few days of its launching.

(zi) Madam Gloria from Germany visited our club on 06.01.16. She was highly pleased with the warm welcome awarded to her.

(zj) On 20.01.16, this club got an opportunity to hold a laughter session from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Dussera Maindan, Indore. There were 4000 devotees of Rev Devkinandan Thakur. 25 members of our club headed by Mr Janardan Sharma conducted the session. It was specifically designed keeping in view Holi Utsav which was to be conducted by Shri Thakur after our session. Everybody enjoyed our session.

(zk) Usual activities of the club continues. The 3 sessions of our laughter clubs are held daily at 6:30 AM; 7 AM and 8:30 AM. There have been overseas visitors from Singapore, Indonesia, USA and Spain. We have held demonstrations of Laughter Yoga at various places in Indore. Daily video clips are published on 3 WhatsApp groups.

(zl) On 20.11.16, we celebrated the 2nd birthday of our club with lot of laughter, dance and songs. Several laughter friends from many of laughter clubs of Indore participated. We honored Gajraj, security guard and Akash, gardener. The video clip pertaining to this unique honor was published on the facebook on 28.11.16. It was posted on several WhatsApp groups. We had variety of tasty food. Everybody enjoyed this hilarious function.

(zm) On 26.11.16, I submitted all the evidence to Guinness World Records. This was required to be done with a year which was to end on 28.11.16.

Bisht, Professor Laughter, Laughter Yoga International and Mrs Radhika Bisht, Master Trainer in Laughter Yoga visited our club and gave lot of valuable knowledge and practical demonstrations. The members were highly pleased and we all thanked Jagat and Radhika for sparing their valuable time for 3 days in the morning. On 13th May, the club members felicitated Jagat and Radhika with Shawl, Flowers and Sweets. The occasion was graced by nearly 100 members in presence of Shri Dilip Sharma, Parshad, Municipal Corporation, Indore and Mr Janardan Sharma, President of Laughter Club of Mahaveer Nagar. Indore.

Our Laughter Club of Man Pasand Park wins Running Shield in Indore for Best Performance and Attendance during World Laughter Day celebrations at Indore on 03.05.15

On 03.05.15, all the 65 Laughter Clubs of Indore met at Mahaveer Nagar Park, Indore. Our club was found to be the best for performance and attendance and accordingly it was awarded the Running Shield. The photos and videos were sent to all the members through WhatsApp. Separately the photos were also uploaded on Facebook vide page of 'Ram Kishan'

Our Laughter Club of Man Pasand Park wins 1st Position among 65 clubs of Indore

On 19.04.15, all the 65 Laughter Clubs of Indore met each other. Our Club had largest strength and we reached on the spot ahead of all others. Our presentation, jokes, poems and participation in all events highly impressed everybody and hence we were awarded 1st prize. All the members felt very happy. This news was immediately flashed on whatsapp. The photos and videos were subsequently sent to all the members through WhatsApp. Separately the photos were also uploaded on Facebook vide page of 'Ram Kishan'

Our Laughter Club of Man Pasand Park is declared to be No 1 club globally by Dr Kataria on 29.11.15

On 29.11.15, during visit to our club at Indore, Dr Kataria declared our club to be No 1 Globally. This is creditable for a club which is a infant of one year of age.

Our Laughter Club of Man Pasand Park is declared to be the current 'Guinness World Record Holder' in the category of 'Largest Laughter Yoga Class' with effect from 28.11.15

On 30.01.17, this fact was communicated by the Guinness World Records.

How to Start a Laughter Club in Your Area i.e. DIY Laughter Club

This web page describes the tremendous benefits of Laughter Yoga. Laughter Yoga is the best overall exercise for body, mind and spirit in least period of time. No other system will provide so many benefits. There are two requirements. First you need to spare at least half an hour daily preferably in morning. Secondly you need to practice Laughter Yoga in a group of persons. It will be ideal if you and your group practices Laughter Yoga in a park say from 7:30AM to 8:00AM. Introduction about Laughter Clubs

A breakthrough technology called Laughter Yoga, which Dr Madan Kataria (A MBBS Doctor in Mumbai) discovered in 1995. It started as a social Laughter Club in Mumbai, India.

There are now thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 100 countries. A rapidly growing global phenomenon, Laughter Yoga is now being practiced in companies, old age homes, schools, colleges, fitness centres, community centres, prisons, hospitals, homes for the physically and mentally challenged and cancer self-help groups. It is being touted as perhaps the best alternative health therapy for complete body mind wellness.

Our Laughter Club at Indore

Mr A. L. Jain (known as Raja Babu) of Indore while in Mumbai visited Laughter Clubs and on return started the same in a park at Indore. He went round park to park and started such clubs past 20 years. On 30.10.2014, he came to our ‘Man Pasand Park, Palasia’ at Indore and started such club. After two months, we found the activity quite monotonous.  To get rid of monotony, I studied various web sites on internet and found that there are numerous ways and means to do so. As an initiative, I started giving practical demonstration of an unique exercise daily. From 16th Feb ’15, we started making videos of the said exercise and posting the same on special WhatsApp Group. From 24th Feb ’15, we started uploading the same on YouTube.  

In fact I already had following materials on ‘Laughter’:-

(1)    ‘Sant Anubhav’ – A book by Narayan Swami published in 1973.  The 10th Chapter in this book is titled ‘ Treatment by Laughter’

(2)    I shot a video on ‘Yoganand’ (Age 102 yrs) at Indore on 09.01.10 when he demonstrated few exercises on ‘Laughter Yoga’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuT3Eu3jbLM#t=171 The ‘Laugher Club of Indore also demonstrated few more exercises. Mr O.P. Gupta, the founder President of 'Vishwa Hasya Yog Mahasang, Indore. narrated the history of laughter yoga. He mentioned meeting with Dr. Madan Kataria who adopted the phrase 'Laughter Yoga' based on news item published in Navabharat Indore. Later on I met Mr O.P. Stress & Depression On The Rise

In this high pressure, high tension and competitive world, laughter is fast disappearing and people are succumbing to daily stressors that relentlessly rob one of the ability to laugh. Stress is the number killer today, while depression has become the number one sickness. More than 70 - 80 percent illnesses are related to stress.

The whole world is full of seriousness. There is little or no laughter at workplaces. Newspapers and television programs continually bombard us with unpleasant news and negative thoughts, making people even less secure.

It has almost become a challenge to combat stress and maintain good health - what with astronomical medical costs! People resort to several therapies, but somehow fail to spot the simplest of them all –  laughter.

Scientifically Proven Benefits

It has been scientifically established that laughter has a profound impact on the body and mind. Not only does it help to prevent the onset of sickness by way of strengthening the immune system, it also has a healing effect. A daily dose of laughter is the one solution which has the power to unwind stress and uplift joy; the power to slow down a racing heart and strengthen the mind; the power to raise the spirit and fend off pessimism…and all this in an instant. Sounds crazy, but works like magic.

Several studies are underway in many universities around the world. Clinical research conducted at Bangalore, India and in the United States has proved that Laughter lowers the level of stress hormones (epinephrine, cortisol, etc) in the blood. The results also showed significant improvement of the Laughter Yoga group in all areas, and it is particularly interesting to note the long-lasting effects of the laughter interventions.

For centuries, laughter was referred to as the best medicine for body and mind, but never was there a reliable delivery system. Laughter was simply the end result of entertainment or amusement, but Laughter Yoga has taken laughter to a new level.  It is a complete delivery system, allowing laughter to actually be prescribed as part of a daily routine in order to realize all of the health benefits. It enables everyone to laugh, even those who are serious, introverted and uncomfortable being funny.

Inspired by articles on benefits of laughter, Dr Madan Kataria launched the Laughter Club Movement in March 1995 with just 5 people in a Mumbai park. In the initial days, the group resorted to jokes and funny stories, but they soon ran out of them. This prompted Dr Kataria to come up with a breakthrough system of laughter. He finally found the answer he was looking for, which was based on a scientific fact that our body cannot differentiate between acted and genuine laughter. Both produced the same ‘happy chemistry’.

The next morning he explained this to the group and asked them to try to act out laughter with him for one minute. Amid skepticism they agreed to try – and the results were amazing. For some, the acted out laughter quickly turned into real laughter – this was contagious and very soon others followed. Soon the group was laughing like never before. The hearty laughter that followed persisted for almost ten minutes. This breakthrough was the birth of Laughter Yoga.

Laughter Yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason, without relying on humor, jokes or comedy.

  We initiate laughter as an exercise in a group, but with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

  The reason we call it Laughter Yoga is because it combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain which makes one feel more energetic and healthy.

  The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter if done with willingness. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.

  In addition to social laughter clubs, Laughter Yoga is also practiced in companies and corporations, Fitness centers, Yoga studios, Centers for Seniors, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Physically and mentally challenged and Self help cancer groups.

Most people feel that if they are able to laugh naturally they don’t need to join a Laughter Club, Here are the 3 basic reasons why one must do Laughter Yoga to get maximum health benefits: 

(1)    To reap the health benefits of laughter, laughter has to be loud and deep, coming from the diaphragm. It should be a belly laugh. It might not be socially acceptable to laugh loudly, but Laughter Yoga clubs provide a safe environment where one can laugh loudly and heartily without any social implication. In order to get scientifically proven health benefits of laughter, we need to laugh continuously for at least for 10 to 15 minutes. Since in Laughter Yoga we do laughter as an exercise, we can prolong our laughter as long as we want; it brings measurable physiological changes like oxygen levels in the blood, muscle relaxation, blood circulation and release of certain hormones in the body.

(2)    To reap the health benefits of laughter, laughter has to be loud and deep, coming from the diaphragm. It should be a belly laugh. (3)    Natural laughter that courses through our life depends upon many reasons and conditions, but there are not many reasons which make us laugh. That means we are leaving laughter to chance, it may happen it may not. In contrast, in Laughter Yoga club we are not leaving laughter to chance, but doing it out of commitment. This is a guaranteed way of getting the health benefits of laughter.

Laughing for no reason is the core philosophy of Laughter Yoga methods.  When Dr Kataria travels around the world, the most commonly asked questions are: Do we need a sense of humor to laugh? How can we laugh when we don’t feel like laughing or are not in a good mood? How can we laugh when we have so many problems in life? Why children can laugh 300 to 400 times in a day while adults laugh only 15 times? Can we learn to laugh? Though Dr Kataria is a medical doctor, he admitted that he was not aware of these very relevant questions before starting the Laughter Club movement. 5 Secrets

SECRET 1: We Don’t Need Sense Of Humor To Laugh Most people believe that one must have a sense of humor to laugh, but Laughter Yoga has proven otherwise. To develop the ability to laugh joyfully, it is important to remove all inhibitions and conditioning created by self, family, and society. Laughter Yoga facilitates this cleaning process and helps to release natural joyful laughter inside of us. The techniques are effective even for people who have lost their laughter or have absolutely no sense of humor. People often say, “I am depressed”, “I cannot laugh”, or “I don’t feel like laughing”. We tell them, “It doesn’t matter. Just bring us your willing body and we will make you laugh.” So, even if you don’t have sense of humor, don’t worry. Just join a Laughter Club and you will develop a sense of humor.

SECRET 2: Motion Creates Emotion “How do you laugh when you’re in no mood to laugh or don’t have any reason to laugh?” The answer is – Theory of motion creates emotion. There is an inherent link between the body and mind.  Whatever happens to the mind happens to the body. Therefore, if one changes the quality of thoughts, one can feel a change in body behavior. Conversely, if one can bring a change in body behavior one can experience the change in mental state. Laughter Yoga has the ability to synchronize both body and the mind, maintaining a mutual harmony.

SECRET 3: You Can Laugh Even If You Are Not Happy There is an old saying, “If you are not happy, act like a happy person and you will become one.” There is great wisdom and science behind “acting out happiness”. Medical research shows that even if you pretend to laugh or act happy, your body produces happy chemicals. Laughter yoga emphasizes ‘fake it until you make it’, which clearly states that there is hardly any difference, between thinking about doing something, and actually doing it. Therefore, whatever may be the source of laughter; it leads to the same physiological changes occurring in the body.

SECRET 4: Cultivate Childlike Playfulness Laughter is not about laughing. It is actually about cultivating childlike playfulness. Once you learn to play, you don’t have to laugh. Laughter will be the natural outcome of your playful inner child. Though laughing in a group provides a stimulus, a childlike behavior by adults helps them to get over their inhibitions and actually loosen up.  Therefore, we incorporate a lot of childlike actions in the laughter clubs like producing funny sounds by swiveling the tongue inside the mouth, tapping air-filled cheeks, laughing like a child and talking Gibberish. We keep reminding our members about the importance of being like a child.

SECRET 5: You Can Train Your Body And Mind To Laugh Our body and mind can be trained to laugh at will. By repeating any bodily behavior over a period of time, the mind begins to generate a predictable response.  Thus, by doing laughter exercises on a regular basis, people become conditioned to be joyful. With Laughter Yoga, the brain develops new neuronal connections that produce happy chemistry in the body.  These reactions can be triggered simply by laughter exercises, and doing certain actions of the body, which lead the mind to experience the emotion of joy.

4 Steps of Laughter Yoga

1 Clapping: We clap with our hands parallel to each other for full finger-to-finger and palm-to-palm contact. This stimulates acupressure points in the hands and increases energy levels.

2 Deep Breathing : Laughter exercises are interspersed with deep breathing exercises to help flush the lungs as well as bring physical and mental relaxation.

3 Childlike playfulness:  The objective of Laughter Yoga is to cultivate childlike playfulness that helps you laugh without any reason, keeps the energy levels and builds enthusiasm.

4 Laughter exercises: Laughter exercises are the mainstay of the session. They help to reduce inhibition and shyness and convert simulated laughter into unconditional laughter.

Here are some ways to start:

bullet Smile. Smiling is the beginning of laughter. Like laughter, it’s contagious. Pioneers in “laugh therapy,” find it’s possible to laugh without even experiencing a funny event. The same holds for smiling. When you look at someone or see something even mildly pleasing, practice smiling.
bullet Count your blessings. Literally make a list. The simple act of considering the good things in your life will distance you from negative thoughts that are a barrier to humor and laughter. When you’re in a state of sadness, you have further to travel to get to humor and laughter.
bullet When you hear laughter, move toward it. Sometimes humor and laughter are private, a shared joke among a small group, but usually not. More often, people are very happy to share something funny because it gives them an opportunity to laugh again and feed off the humor you find in it. When you hear laughter, seek it out and ask, “What’s funny?”

Developing your sense of humor: Take yourself less seriously

One essential characteristic that helps us laugh is not taking ourselves too seriously. We’ve all known the classic tight-jawed sourpuss who takes everything with deathly seriousness and never laughs at anything. No fun there!

Some events are clearly sad and not occasions for laughter. But most events in life don’t carry an overwhelming sense of either sadness or delight. They fall into the gray zone of ordinary life–giving you the choice to laugh or not.

The ability to laugh, play, and have fun with others not only makes life more enjoyable but also helps you solve problems, connect with others, and be more creative. People who incorporate humor and play into their daily lives find that it renews them and all of their relationships.

Life brings challenges that can either get the best of you or become playthings for your imagination. When you “become the problem” and take yourself too seriously, it can be hard to think outside the box and find new solutions. But when you play with the problem, you can often transform it into an opportunity for creative learning.

Laughter is a physical reaction in humans and some other species of primate, consisting typically of rhythmical, often audible contractions of the diaphragm and other parts of the respiratory system. It is a response to certain external or internal stimuli. Nature

Children are said to laugh a great deal more than adults: an average baby laughing 300-400 times a day compared to an average adult laughing only 15-20 times a day;[citation needed] however the cited article, written by one of the two top humor researches in the world, establishes that there is no real basis for this claim.[5] Laughter might be thought of as an audible expression or appearance of excitement, an inward feeling of joy and happiness. It may ensue from jokestickling, and other stimuli completely unrelated to psychological state, such as nitrous oxide. One group of researchers speculated that noises from infants as early as 17 days old may be vocal laughing sounds or laughter,[6] however the weight of the evidence supports its appearance at 15 weeks to four months of age.

Laughter researcher Robert Provine said: "Laughter is a mechanism everyone has; laughter is part of universal human vocabulary. There are thousands of languages, hundreds of thousands of dialects, but everyone speaks laughter in pretty much the same way." Babies have the ability to laugh before they ever speak. Children who are born blind and deaf still retain the ability to laugh.[7]

Provine argues that "Laughter is primitive, an unconscious vocalization." Provine argues that it probably is genetic. In a study of the "Giggle Twins", two happy twins who were separated at birth and only reunited 43 years later, Provine reports that "until they met each other, neither of these exceptionally happy ladies had known anyone who laughed as much as they did." They reported this even though they both had been brought together by their adoptive parents, who they indicated were "undemonstrative and dour." He indicates that the twins "inherited some aspects of their laugh sound and pattern, readiness to laugh, and maybe even taste in humor."[8]

Norman Cousins developed a recovery program incorporating megadoses of Vitamin C, along with a positive attitude, love, faith, hope, and laughter induced by Marx Brothers films. "I made the joyous discovery that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep," he reported. "When the pain-killing effect of the laughter wore off, we would switch on the motion picture projector again and not infrequently, it would lead to another pain-free interval."[9][10]

Scientists have noted the similarity in forms of laughter induced by tickling among various primates, which suggests that laughter derives from a common origin among primate species.[11][12]

A very rare neurological condition has been observed whereby the sufferer is unable to laugh out loud, a condition known as aphonogelia.[13]

The Brain

Neurophysiology indicates that laughter is linked with the activation of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, that producesendorphins.[14] Scientists have shown that parts of the limbic system are involved in laughter. This system is involved in emotions and helps us with functions necessary for humans' survival. The structures in the limbic system that are involved in laughter: thehippocampus and the amygdala.[15]

The December 7, 1984, Journal of the American Medical Association describes the neurological causes of laughter as follows:

"Although there is no known 'laugh center' in the brain, its neural mechanism has been the subject of much, albeit inconclusive, speculation. It is evident that its expression depends on neural paths arising in close association with the telencephalic anddiencephalic centers concerned with respiration. Wilson considered the mechanism to be in the region of the mesial thalamus,hypothalamus, and subthalamus. Kelly and co-workers, in turn, postulated that the tegmentum near the periaqueductal greycontains the integrating mechanism for emotional expression. Thus, supranuclear pathways, including those from the limbic systemthat Papez hypothesised to mediate emotional expressions such as laughter, probably come into synaptic relation in the reticular core of the brain stem. So while purely emotional responses such as laughter are mediated by subcortical structures, especially the hypothalamus, and are stereotyped, the cerebral cortex can modulate or suppress them." 

Health

A link between laughter and healthy function of blood vessels was first reported in 2005 by researchers at the University of Maryland Medical Center with the fact that laughter causes the dilatation of the inner lining of blood vessels, the endothelium, and increases blood flow.[16] Drs. Michael Miller (University of Maryland) and William Fry (Stanford), theorize that beta-endorphin like compounds released by the hypothalamus activate receptors on the endothelial surface to release nitric oxide, thereby resulting in dilation of vessels. Other cardioprotective properties of nitric oxide include reduction of inflammation and decreased platelet aggregation.[17][18]

Laughter has proven beneficial effects on various other aspects of biochemistry. It has been shown to lead to reductions in stress hormones such as cortisol andepinephrine. When laughing the brain also releases endorphins that can relieve some physical pain.[19] Laughter also boosts the number of antibody-producing cells and enhances the effectiveness of T-cells, leading to a stronger immune system.[20] A 2000 study found that people with heart disease were 40 percent less likely to laugh and be able to recognize humor in a variety of situations, compared to people of the same age without heart disease.[21]

In interaction

A number of studies using methods of conversation analysis and discourse analysis have documented the systematic workings of laughter in a variety of interactions, from casual conversations to interviews,meetings, and therapy sessions.[22] Working with recorded interactions, researchers have created detailed transcripts that indicate not only the presence of laughter but also features of its production and placement.

These studies challenge several widely held assumptions about the nature of laughter. Contrary to notions that it is spontaneous and involuntary, research documents that laughter is sequentially-organized and precisely placed relative to surrounding talk. Far more than merely a response to humor, laughter often works to manage delicate and serious moments. More than simply an external behavior “caused” by an inner state, laughter is highly communicative and helps accomplish actions and regulate relationships.

Causes

Common causes for laughter are sensations of joy and humor; however, other situations may cause laughter as well.

A general theory that explains laughter is called the relief theorySigmund Freud summarized it in his theory that laughter releases tension and "psychic energy". This theory is one of the justifications of the beliefs that laughter is beneficial for one's health.[23] This theory explains why laughter can be used as a coping mechanism when one is upset, angry or sad.

Philosopher John Morreall theorizes that human laughter may have its biological origins as a kind of shared expression of relief at the passing of danger. Friedrich Nietzsche, by contrast, suggested laughter to be a reaction to the sense of existential loneliness and mortality that only humans feel.

For example: a joke creates an inconsistency and the audience automatically try to understand what the inconsistency means; if they are successful in solving this 'cognitive riddle' and they realize that the surprise was not dangerous, they laugh with relief. Otherwise, if the inconsistency is not resolved, there is no laugh, as Mack Sennett pointed out: "when the audience is confused, it doesn't laugh." This is one of the basic laws of a comedian, referred to "exactness". It is important to note that sometimes the inconsistency may be resolved and there may still be no laugh.[citation needed] Because laughter is a social mechanism, an audience may not feel as if they are in danger, and the laugh may not occur. In addition, the extent of the inconsistency (and aspects of it timing and rhythm) has to do with the amount of danger the audience feels, and how hard or long they laugh.

Laughter can also be brought on by tickling. Although most people find it unpleasant, being tickled often causes heavy laughter, thought to be an (often uncontrollable) reflex of the body.[24][25]

Types

Laughter can be classified according to intensity: the chuckle, the titter, the giggle, the chortle, the cackle, the belly laugh, the sputtering burst.[26][27] According to the overtness: snicker, snigger, guffaw. According to the respiratory pattern involved: snort. According to the emotion it is expressed with: relief, mirth, joy, happiness, embarrassment, apology, confusion, nervous laughter,paradoxical laughtercourtesy laughevil laughter. Laughter can be classified also according to the sequence of notes or pitches it produces. It may be subjectively measured on the Andreoli scale for heartiness, with a higher measure denoting greater robustness, generally in a manly aspect.

Human laugh structure and anatomy[edit]

A normal laugh has the structure of "ha-ha-ha" or "ho-ho-ho." It is unnatural, and one is physically unable, to have a laugh structure of "ha-ho-ha-ho." The usual variations of a laugh most often occur in the first or final note in a sequence- therefore, "ho-ha-ha" or "ha-ha-ho" laughs are possible. Normal note durations with unusually long or short "inter-note intervals" do not happen due to the result of the limitations of our vocal cords. This basic structure allows one to recognize a laugh despite individual variants.[28]

It has also been determined that eyes moisten during laughter as a reflex from the tear glands.[20]

Negative aspects

Laughter is not always a pleasant experience and is associated with several negative phenomena. Excessive laughter can lead to cataplexy, and unpleasant laughter spells, excessive elation, and fits of laughter can all be considered negative aspects of laughter. Unpleasant laughter spells, or "sham mirth," usually occur in people who have a neurological condition, including patients with pseudobulbar palsymultiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. These patients appear to be laughing out of amusement but report that they are feeling undesirable sensations "at the time of the punch line."

Excessive elation is a common symptom associated with manic-depressive psychoses and mania/hypomania. Those who suffer from schizophrenic psychoses seem to suffer the opposite—they do not understand humor or get any joy out of it. A fit describes an abnormal time when one cannot control the laughter or one’s body, sometimes leading to seizures or a brief period of unconsciousness. Some believe that fits of laughter represent a form of epilepsy.[29]

Laughter therapy

Laughter has been used as a therapeutic tool for many years because it is a natural form of medicine. Laughter is available to everyone and it provides benefits to a person's physical, emotional, and social well being. Some of the benefits of using laughter therapy are that it can relieve stress and relax the whole body. It can also boost the immune system and release endorphins to relieve pain. Additionally, laughter can help prevent heart disease by increasing blood flow and improving the function of blood vessels. Some of the emotional benefits include diminishing anxiety or fear, improving overall mood, and adding joy to one's life.

Laughter therapy also has some social benefits, such as strengthening relationships, improving teamwork and reducing conflicts, and making oneself more attractive to others. Therefore, whether a person is trying to cope with a terminal illness or just trying to manage their stress or anxiety levels, laughter therapy can be a significant enhancement to their life.[30][31]

In literature

Laughter in literature, although considered understudied by some,[32] is a subject that has received attention in the written word for millennia. The use of humor and laughter in literary works has been studied and analyzed by many thinkers and writers, from theAncient Greek philosophers onward. Henri Bergson's Laughter: An Essay on the Meaning of the Comic (Le rire, 1901) is a notable 20th-century contribution.

(2)   Shri Narendra Dubey (M.No. - 9827092549) – He is a well known property broker in Palasia area of Indore. His video interview was recorded on 21st March 2015.  He used to experience headache in the morning for one to one and half hours daily. This has now been cured to the extent of 95%. Further he was having stress at the back and also in the calves. All these have been cured fully. Now whole day he feels good and relaxed. (5)   Mrs Neelam – Mrs Neelam Khetan hails from Kathmandu, Nepal. At the moment she is staying with her son at Indore. She is attending our laughter club right from the inception. Under such debacle, neither her mental state was disturbed, nor her night sleep was affected. She assigns all this to her daily practice of laughter yoga. Muscles have become flexible. Stiffness in the legs have gone. Earlier she was getting tired in four or five rounds of the garden and she can easily complete 5 to 15 rounds. Earlier he was unable to take full round of the factory and the legs used to have tingling sensations. After regularly attending the Laughter Club, he takes complete round of his factory without any difficulty. Now he does not have any problems in the legs. His health also has improved. Application of Law of Torts in claiming Damages from Municipal Corporations for demolition of structures, closure of shops etc:- In many parts of the country, the Municipal Corporations are demolishing structures like shops and houses which existed for number of years. The shops existing for number of years are proposed to be shut down. The affected persons should claim Damages under the Law of Torts, which would be substantial. It is learnt that in Delhi itself about 5 lac shops are to be closed down and about 25 lac persons would be out of jobs. All these persons should file damage suits in the civil court. Since the damages would be substantial, the suits may be filed as Indigent Persons. Since the damages would attract interest, the usual delay by the civil courts will not affect the final outcome.
